Participants are advised to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. The Gulbenkian Foundation is located in the Lisbon city center which is about 6 km from the airport. From the airport, a taxi ride to the Gulbenkian Foundation will cost at most 8-10 euro, and will take about 10 minutes.
Public transportation is very affordable, and we especially recommend the subway for travelling within the city.
Choose locations in the city center when you book your hotel or hostel. Praca d' Espanha, Saldanha and Campo Pequeno are at walking distance (5-10 minutes). Other places we recommend are Marquis de Pombal, Rossio, Bairro Alto and Jardim Zoologico (the Zoo), but you will be required to use public transportation to reach the venue.
In the city center, avoid locations such as the Oceanarium, the Atlantic Pavilion, the Park of Nations (Parque das Nações), and Belem. They require around 30 minutes of commuting to reach the venue.
Also avoid Cascais, Costa da Caparica, Ericeira, Estoril, Sesimbra and Sintra. These are regions that are part of greater Lisbon, and require 1 to 2 hours of travel to reach the Gulbenkian Foundation. However, all are beautiful places for sightseeing.
